blog 2 quarter 4
the author of the book of revelations is John of patmos. There are two dates that are commonly mentioned for the writing of the Book of Revelation: an early date - still during the lifetime of Caesar Nero, about the middle of the 60ies AD; and a late date - about 95/96 AD furing the time of Caesar Domitian. The first verse of the book sets the theme.The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place (Rev 1:1). For many the purpose of the book of Revelation served as only applicable to those of the First Century Christians. The purpose, as our Title of this book depicts, is a message of comfort during a time of conflict that ultimately results in a conquest and a victory over the oppressor. Although this message was directly written to the Christians of the First Century, I believe that we as children of God today can and must see the message applicable throughout the ages as well as the ages to come. From other plain Scripture we are told that Satan and His evil forces are at work trying to destroy that which belongs to God and that which is good. We see this attack begin in the Garden of Eden, and we still see this attack continuing today, believing the end to such an onslaught against the children of God to only seize at that Great Day with the coming of Our Lord and Savior in the Air. Peter warns us that Satan is constantly seeking for those whom he may devour: "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." 1Peter 5:8

Simon The Apostle Simon who was known as Peter
was one of the first Apostles. Simon was a fisher on the seas of Galilee along
with his brother Andrew. To many Simon was known as the more impulsive one of
the group. Simon was one of the two men Jesus first called on to be a disciple.
Since he was a fisherman Jesus told Simon and Andrew to put their net around the
people and bring them into the kingdom.
Simon was often called Simon the Zealot. He was called Simon the Zealot not because he was from Canaan but because of his zeal for the Jewish law. Simon spread the word of Jesus around Egypt and Mesopotamia. Simon was known to be impulsive because he was never afraid to speak his mind. Simon was also the one who cut off the ear of a man at the taking of Jesus. When Simon was in Persia with the apostle Judas they were both martyred. Some say Simon's throat was cut others say he was sawed in half like the prophet Isaiah. Many would say Simon was quick to speak, impetuous and impulsive.
I can live out the call of discipleship in my own life by telling people about Jesus. I can talk about him with my friends and family letting them know things also learning new things as well. By doing this I am spreading the word just like the apostles did.

cultural climate duringh the time of christ
During the time period in which Jesus Christ was born there were many different things going on in the cultural climate. The cultural climate had to do with all things politically, socially, religiously, and economically. Jesus Christ was born in the town of Bethlehem, Judea. He was born into the Jewish religion. During this time period, the Jewish people had a very difficult time because so many people were against them and their faith.
Politically, the rules of this time were very strict. The Roman government was in charge of all of Judea and many other places. King Herod was the king who enforced the Roman laws to the people of Judea. The Jewish people believed that they had their own freedoms, but in reality the Romans ruled them and they had to obey the laws. King Herod was horrible to the people and was very strict against the Jews. He even demanded that all the first born Jewish baby boys be killed. Economically, the times were made very difficult because of the way the Romans ruled. They made it so the poor and rich were very separated in the class systems. The poor had to work very hard just to earn a small amount of money. They had to build many things in the towns for their jobs, which was very difficult and time consuming. Despite their hard work, they were taxed by the Roman government, so they had to work even harder just to earn enough money to survive.
Socially, the people were separated into two groups. The first group would be the Jewish people, and the second group was the Gentiles. The Gentiles were all of the non-Jewish people of this time. Religiously, there was also two separate groups of people. These were the Sadducees and the Pharisees. The Sadducees were the people who followed the Torah, but not the specific Jewish religion. They were the larger of the two groups because they followed the Roman traditions rather than Jewish traditions. The Pharisees were those who followed the Jewish traditions. They would teach about God and the old traditions written in the Torah. They were very Jewish and had a very strong faith even though it was not accepted during this period in time.

3rd blog posting: the prophet isaiah
isaiah was a prophet in the kingdom of judah. judah was overthrown by the assyrians. Isaiah prophesized during the reigns of both good and bad kings, Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah. he lived until the fourteenth year of Hezekiah. during the exile, isaiah took part in events and at some point was a guide through these events. Isaiah knew that Judah was the lone place where the people could go back to following God's truthful messages and way of life. Isaiah had courage in the people of Judah to follow the right path. If anyone follows the right path in any aspect of life, then being successful and happy will come easily and will be involved in our lives. i think the way isaiah preached to the people was great. he taught them to believe in one god and one god only.

proverb 4:5-7
Get wisdom, get understanding;
do not forget my words or turn away from them.
Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you;
love her, and she will watch over you.
The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom.
Though it cost all you have, get understanding.
I chose this quote because it has a meaning that says that no matter what you say she will still keep you and that you have to understand it.
Also because it was the first thing i saw while googling wisdom quotes. But either way it has a pretty straight forward meaning that is not hard to understand. And as we learn through many years the right thing to do is to be honest. And if they really love you they will understand whatever you may say they can handle the fact that your honest.
This quote was meant to speak about a relationship. It is talking about a trust and honest relationship. And although is may cost all of your possessions you will learn from it.
